Rent freeze lawsuit tests limits of City Hall influence over RGB

The first legal challenge to New York City’s rent freeze is about far more than this year’s Rent Guidelines Board vote. Six landlords filed an Article 78 petition in New York Supreme Court seeking to overturn the Rent Guidelines Board’s June decision to freeze rents for the city’s roughly 1 million stabilized apartments. The petition asks the court to annul the vote and send it back to the board for reconsideration, arguing the process was arbitrary and politically predetermined.
