Standing over a giant Monopoly-like game board, Mayor Zohran Mamdani explains in a snappy video how the city decides annual rent increases for regulated apartments. The video, posted on social media last month, shows the mayor holding up fake game pieces labeled tenants, in blue, matching his tie, and landlords, in red. He notes that the Rent Guidelines Board is an “independent body that considers the evidence” before deciding how much property owners can raise rents on stabilized apartments.
