Gary Barnett’s catchphrase in recent months may as well be “bigger is better.” Extell Development filed plans to nearly triple the height of a project at 871 Seventh Avenue in Midtown Manhattan, the site of the now-closed Wellington Hotel, Crain’s reported. Where the firm once sought a 27-story hotel, it’s now pursuing a 71-story mixed-use project. The development would be 1,050-feet tall and span 484,000 square feet, according to an application with the Department of City Planning.
